So Excited!
You know that feeling when you’re so excited you can’t sit still? Like that night before Christmas feeling you had as a kid? Or the butterflies you feel when you’re going on your first date?
As I get ready to embark on my 11 day Caribbean cruise tomorrow, that’s exactly how I’m feeling! In the morning, I’ve got a Lyft picking me up at 5 am, to drop me at JFK. Then I’m flying to San Juan, Puerto Rico. The next day I board my Virgin cruise ship and we head out to sea. The highlights will be Tortola, BVI-Basseterre, St. Kitts & Nevis, St. John’s, Antigua, Martinique, Bridgetown, Barbados, Castries, St. Lucia, and Kingstown before returning to San Juan.
This is a unique trip for me, in that not only am I doing this on my own, but I’m not sad, I’m not sick, nor mad. I’m not in a fog, I’m not blue. I get to completely relax, unwind and do whatever I want.
The coolest thing is that no one knows who I am on this trip. I’m completely anonymous, and that is beyond thrilling. I can show up as my current self, or as my future self, or as anyone else in the world.
I would say this excitement and delight is an unusual feeling, but it kind of isn’t. I had a friend say, “how can you dare to do this by yourself?” I wondered what the hell she meant – I mean, I’ll be on a cruise ship for heaven’s sake, not moving across the country from my hometown of 55 years to the wilds of New Jersey, or something crazy like that. Silly.
The last time I had this kind of thrill was not that long ago. I actually get it about once a week, whenever I head to NYC to pick up my grandson and family to go off on an adventure. I also get it when I’m headed to the airport to pick up a loved one, be it sister or daughter. It also happens when waiting for a Mini Maserati to pull up outside complete with kittens and a dog, and my sweet girl. It is the same exhilaration, the same delight, the same anticipation of fun times ahead.
Whatever happens, know I’m having the best time, and couldn’t be happier. I’ll be updating y’all regularly. LYTAM!
